There are several cities on this list, some of which are located in the same state! The data is all recorded from SmartAsset, who keeps track of how many retirees move into what city. You might be surprised at some of these cities! Take a look. 1. Henderson, Nevada Aerial view / 55Places This was surprisingly the #1 spot for seniors to move to for retirement. SmartAsset saw net immigration of 2,341 seniors, with 3,191 coming to town and 850 calling it quits. SmatAsset calls Nevada "one of the friendliest states for retirees." This is because the state has no income tax, which is desirable to many, including retirees! 2. San Antonio, Texas View of downtown San Antonio, Texas / Texas Public Radio San Antonio, Texas is another top 10 retiree state due to having no state income tax or tax of any kind on retirement income. Not to mention, it's also just a beautiful state with great weather and had a net increase of 2,306 seniors just last year. 3. Scottsdale, Arizona Scottsdale, Arizona / Experience Scottsdale This city is not only a desirable location for retirees to move to, but it's also a gorgeous vacation destination. Scottsdale is known for its resorts, golf courses, galleries, and culinary scene, making it the go-to option for many. The city saw a net influx of 1,834 retirees last year, even though it's slightly more expensive than other Arizona cities. 4. Mesa, Arizona Mesa, Arizona / Mormon Newsroom The median home cost for places in Mesa, Arizona is less than $1,000, significantly cheaper than in Scottsdale. Just last year, just under 2,300 retirees moved to the beautiful city. 5. Las Vegas, Nevada Las Vegas, Nevada / SmarterTravel Are you surprised to see Las Vegas on this list? 4,387 retirees made Las Vegas their new home last year. This is because there are low property taxes and no levy on retirement income. From a tax perspective, it's been deemed the most retirement-friendly area for seniors. Gilbert, Arizona Gilbert, Arizona / Realtor.com Another stunning Arizona city, SmartAsset claims this city might be for the 'wealthier' retirees. The average home in Gilbert is $1,400 per month and $300,000-plus in value. SmartAsset reports that anyone looking to make Gilbert their new home will need $60,000 up front for a down payment. However, it's still a very desirable place for retirees. Do you see how gorgeous it is?! 7. Surprise, Arizona Ground view in Surprise, AZ / Wikipedia Surprise, Arizona welcomed 1,131 retirees last year. It's a popular place for retirees due to its dry heat and no tax on Social Security income. 8. Raleigh, North Carolina Raleigh, North Carolina / Unpakt About 2,015 seniors made Raleigh, North Carolina their home last year. It's a beautiful city, but in terms of taxes, it's only moderately friendly. 9. Eugene, Oregon Eugene, Oregon / Travel Lane County This gorgeous city saw just under 1,100 retirees move into the city last year. However, the median home in Eugene is worth $267,000, which is why this gorgeous (yet expensive) city ranks in ninth place. 10. Peoria, Arizona Peoria, Arizona / Tuscany Ridge Apts This city saw 1,046 people move into the city last year. The median cost of homes in that area comes to just under $1,200 per month, which is why this stunning city ranks in tenth place. At least there are multiple Arizona cities to choose from! Honorable mention time... Kissimmee, Florida Kissimmee, Florida / TripAdvisor You know we couldn't leave out the single most-desired retiree destination! While pretty much any city in the state of Florida will do, Kissimmee has some of the most affordable home prices, clocking in around the 100k's. Livability also calls Kissimmee the best destination for "entertainment, outdoor recreation, and strong job growth." I would love to live in any of these places!
