Disneyland is the happiest place in the world according to diehard Disney fans, and I can see why they think that! It’s a place filled with fun, laughter, wonder, and a whole lot of magic! It really is the happiest place on Earth. After all, who doesn’t want to meet a real-life Disney character? (If you answered me to that question, what’s wrong with you?) Because of its elite status as the happiest place in the world, there are a lot of myths, rumors, and gossip surrounding the place. Mainly, what goes on after the park closes. There are countless rumors, most of them stranger than the one before them. disneydose.com One of the biggest rumors surrounds the staff, and what they can and can’t do. According to multiple ex Disney members of staff, they’re not allowed to have facial hair, wear too much or too little makeup, have long hair or short hair, and they’re not allowed to have tattoos. disneydose.com Apparently, the rules are so strict that it ruins their love for the Disney films. One of the biggest rules they have to follow involves the way they point. disneydose.com If you’ve ever been to Disneyland, you may have noticed that a lot of the staff force smiles. You can’t help but feel a bit bad for the staff (or cast members, as they’re called) because they have a really tough job. Disneyland might be the most magical and happiest place on earth for children (and big kids like myself), but for the staff, who have to constantly smile, be happy and act as though they can’t hear kids screaming the entire time, it’s a hard job. It’s like becoming a parent to thousands of children who aren’t yours. I know I couldn’t do that as a job! On top of having to act like everything is fine and happy, there are a number of odd rules that members of staff must follow at all time. Some of these rules are pretty obvious, they’re not allowed to swear in front of guests, and they must pick up any rubbish on the spot. But one of the strangest rules Disneyland staff have to follow revolves around how they point. Disney staff are not allowed to point using just one finger. If a member of staff needs to point towards something, they have to use their index and middle finger, rather than just their index finger, which many of us use day to day. But in some cultures, pointing with one finger is considered to be a rude gesture, Disneyland wants to avoid accidentally causing offense. But they also do the ‘Disney Point’ because a two-fingered point apparently seems more friendly than just a one finger point. This method of pointing was also a throwback to how Walt gestured when he went to the park. He would often point with a cigarette between his fingers, which was often seen gesturing with two fingers, as a result. Obviously, as time went on, the cigarette was edited out to try and avoid influencing children into smoking (which is neither big nor clever), which mean he was often portrayed as pointing with two fingers. One of these rules is that staff who are unable to answer a question can’t say ‘I don’t know’. So if a staff member can’t answer a guest’s question, they have to ring around and find out for them. If you’ve ever been to Disneyland and a member of staff said: “Have a magical Disney Day”, then sorry, but you’re a bit of a terrible person.
