If the performers in Signature Theatre’s musical version of “Diner” do half as well as the stars of Barry Levinson’s original 1982 movie, they can count on pretty strong careers. Here’s a look at what happened to the then-mostly unknown (now very well known) cast: Kevin Bacon A soap star before “Diner,” he was one degree from stardom with his role as the troubled Fenwick in the film. He went on to star in “Footloose,” “Apollo 13,” “Mystic River” and the Fox series “The Following.” Steve Guttenberg Since his role as Eddie, he has made a career out of the “Police Academy” films as well as “Cocoon,” “3 Men and a Baby” and their sequels. Daniel Stern The Bethesda native had starred in “Breaking Away’ and was in “Stardust Memories.” After “Diner,” he became known as one of the burglars in “Home Alone,” co-starred in “City Slickers,” and narrated and directed a few episodes of “The Wonder Years.” He now appears in WGN’s “Manhattan.” Mickey Rourke His biggest role before appearing as Boogie in “Diner” was as the arsonist in “Body Heat.” He went on to star in “Rumble Fish” and “Nine 1/2 Weeks.” A big comeback in 2008’s “The Wrestler” got him a Golden Globe award and Oscar nomination. Ellen Barkin The actress went on to star in “The Big Easy” and “Sea of Love.” After a five-year marriage to billionaire Ronald O. Perelman, she returned to film in “Ocean’s Thirteen,” won a Tony for “The Normal Heart” on Broadway and starred in the NBC sitcom “The New Normal.” She will appear in Showtime’s “Happyish” with Steve Coogan. Tim Daly The actor starred on TV’s “Wings” and “Private Practice,” was the voice of Superman in the 1990s animated series, made key appearances in “The Sopranos” and is the husband of the title character in the CBS drama “Madam Secretary.” And last but not least, Paul Reiser The comic went on to roles in the “Beverly Hills Cop” movies and “Aliens,” though he may be best known for the TV series “My Two Dads,” “Mad About You” and “The Paul Reiser Show.” He now has a role in the FX comedy “Married.” Source: (Washington Post)
