McDonald's has tried many different new menu items over the years. Some work well and become fan favorites, and others are honestly just kind of gross. McDonald's has offered some pretty strange menu items that you may have forgotten about it! Of course, menu items come and go for various reasons. Some are just not popular enough. Others become too expensive to continue offering for the fast food chain. Either way, let's take a walk down memory lane of some McDonald's offerings you probably will never see again. The McDLT McDLT styrofoam container / Facebook The McDLT was a play on the BLT sandwich, but it stood for McDonald's, lettuce, and tomato. It was introduced in 1984 and aimed to keep the burger part warm and the toppings cold. This was achieved by placing each part in a styrofoam box that had sections. However, by 1991 it was discontinued because of an environmentalist backlash of the styrofoam container. It was a box of five bone-in wings that lasted from 1990 to 2003. They came back briefly in 2013 but just weren't that popular because of high prices. In addition, customers also thought they were too spicy. Snack Wraps Snack Wraps / Facebook McDonald's dabbled in wrap sandwiches over the years. These were popular in Europe, but never really made it big in America. Customers complained that it took too long for McDonald's employees to make the wraps. Chicken Selects Chicken Selects and fries / Facebook While these chicken tenders were extremely popular, McDonald's just couldn't keep up with the demand. They also tried a similar version called Buttermilk Crispy Tenders in 2017. McStuffins McStuffins / Facebook In 1993, McDonald's released baked French bread which was stuffed with different ingredients. Some of the flavors of McStuffins included pepperoni pizza and chicken teriyaki. McDonald's tried regular pizza over the years, but actual pizza places won out every time. The Hula Burger Hula Burger / Facebook The Hula Burger was just a piece of grilled pineapple and two slices of cheese on a burger bun. It was first introduced in the '60s but eventually lost out on the menu to the Filet-O-Fish sandwich. For instance, the meatless option was aimed towards Catholics who abstained from meat on Fridays. McSalad Shaker The McSalad Shakers / Facebook The McSalad Shakers debuted in 2000. They were salads served in a plastic cup, so you could shake in the dressing when you were ready to eat it on the go. You could get a chef salad, grilled chicken Caesar salad or a garden salad. Now, McDonald's serves regular salads in bowls. Onion Nuggets Onion nuggets / Facebook They were started in the '70s but haven't been seen in years. They were basically onion rings but were chunks instead of rings. Super Size Super Size / Facebook For a while, McDonald's offered an extra-large size for certain products. They would ask if you wanted to Super Size it. This is likely gone due to the increased demand for more healthier options.
