Big Boy restaurants are changing their mascot from Big Boy to Dolly. It's unclear whether this will be a temporary or permanent change. The change comes with the news of a new menu item. Big Boy restaurants recently rolled out a new chicken sandwich, and with that new addition, they unveiled a long-forgotten character. One of their older characters, Dolly, will now be replacing their current iconic mascot that we've all come to know and love. She will now be serving as the official mascot to promote the restaurant's newest sandwich. We're not sure how long she's staying, but she is for now. We’re calling it the best cluckin’ chicken sandwich around, and Dolly, who has been with Big Boys since the 1950s as far as we can go back with our comic books. We recognize the times that we’re in, hopefully, turning the corner in this pandemic and come out of it, but we want to set ourselves up for the future as well.” While this appears to be a promotional change, Alessandrini speaks about it as if it's a permanent change to the company. “It is Dolly’s time to shine now with our chicken sandwich,” he says. “So, she’s taken the forefront right now. She’s in charge. The name will always be Big Boy, but as far as the logo, she’s leading the charge, and we’ll see when he comes back if he does.” How the Internet is reacting Big Boy mascot / Wikimedia Commons The change was met with a lot of backlash on Twitter. One person says "I don't think I will eat here now that the big boy is gone." Another writes, "You just lost me as a lifetime customer. The food at my local Bob’s Big Boy isn’t what it was back in the ’60s, anyway. I go for the nostalgia (and the fudge cake sundae). Never even heard of heard of Dolly." However, there were also some customers that didn't really mind. "If you're pressed about a chicken sandwich changing mascots, you're a *say it with me* SNOOOOWFLAAAAAAKEEEEEEE," someone writes.
