The classic romantic flick has spawned a hit musical and a less popular TV remake in 2017, and now fans can learn more about the making of the movie itself. Here’s the low-down on the documentary… Dirty Dancing has a special place in many people’s hearts. The Dirty Dancing Story aired on July 26 at 9 pm on Channel 5. It was made to celebrate the 30 years since the movie first captured the hearts of cinema-goers. The documentary lasts an hour and a half features interviews with those involved in the making of the original film. There are contributions from actors Kelly Bishop, who played Baby’s mother, Lonny Price, who played Neil, and Jane Brucker who played Baby’s sister Lisa. Choreographer Miranda Garrison and writer Eleanor Bergstein will also be providing some insights on their creation. Image via The Sun When did the remake come out and what did fans make of it? In 2017 a TV remake was made for US channel ABC, with X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger playing Penny. Will And Grace star Debra Messing played Baby’s mother, while US actress Abigail Breslin played Baby and Colt Prattes played Johnny. It was panned by critics and fans alike. It was a bit rich of the narrator of Channel 5’s The Dirty Dancing Story to express amazement that people are still talking about the movie 30 years after its release. It’s on TV pretty much every other day, mate. Is there any wonder people are still talking about it? Don’t take that as a criticism though. I’ve seen it well over a hundred times, but whenever it pops up in the listings I’m there again – watermelon or not. So I was more than ready for this documentary. And it didn’t disappoint, with an hour’s worth of lively anecdotes from celebrity fans and people who actually worked on the movie. I mean, it was nice to see that - but what I really wanted was a glimpse of SJP’s failed effort. Click "Next" to find out more. Elsewhere, I was a touched by Tamzin Outhwaite’s confession she’d spent much of her life looking for a man like Swayze’s Johnny. The movie is many people's favorite romantic drama And I was stunned by Sarah Harding’s giggles as she recalled the Hula Hana number performed by Baby’s sister Lisa (Jane Brucker): “She just can’t sing can she? Bless her.” (So tempted right now to send Jane some DVDs of Sarah’s acting in Corrie.) My favorite tale though came from Kelly Bishop (Baby’s mum) who admitted that thanks to some generous crew members and a secret stash of whiskey half the cast were bladdered by the final scene. As most viewers, I will, no doubt be there the next time the film is shown on television.
