Ahh, prom. One of the highlights of a high school student’s life. Prom is a formal dance event or gathering of high school students. It is typically held near the end of the senior year. Students come in their best (seriously!) evening formal attire, bring a date or be with a group of friends, arrive in a limousine or a party bus, anything that would make the experience more unique and unforgettable. But as perfect as it may sound and despite all the preparation, there are still awkward moments and bad photos during this much-awaited event. I mean, nobody really looks great during high school, right? It’s an awkward stage to be in honestly. Just like the photos on this list! 1. Prom Superheroes Runt-of-the-web.com This couple went to the prom as some type of dynamic duo, although it’s unclear what type of super power they possessed. They were rocking their color-coordinated blue, green, and white ensemble, though. 2. Fit to Be Tied Awkwardfamilyphotos.com Talk about bad timing. This color-coordinated foursome’s prom photo was hindered by an impromptu wind that sent one beau’s tie perfectly across his date’s eyes. They clearly needed a do-over. 3. Feline Motif runt-of-the-web.com This couple was oh-so-serious posing in their feline motif. The tiger-skin rug behind them — as he held a kitty — was a defining touch. The beige couch was a good matching color choice. He also gets props for wearing a red tie to match her red-banded waistline. 4. Chippendale's at the Prom Reddit.com/BravelyWednesday There are some questionable prom looks, but this one stands out. This group of guys, circa 1998, look like they’re posing for a Chippendale’s ad rather than a prom photo. Not everyone was game for the gimmick, though. One guy neglected the bare-chested beefcakes and opted to wear a shirt. 5. The All-Americans runt-of-the-web.com This couple looks like it worked really hard on the matching patriotic prom look. The addition of blue and white hearts either symbolized their love for their country or for each other. Her accessorizing with the headband and star earrings, along with his silver bow tie, is the bomb. 6. Father Photobomb runt-of-the-web.com Prom can be very emotional for parents who are struggling to see their kids grow up. For fathers, it can be a time to reflect on daddy’s little girl. This shirtless father photobombing his daughter’s prom photo is both creepy and priceless. 7. Proud and Protective Papa Awkwardfamilyphotos.com We hope that this dad wasn’t subliminally projecting anything onto his teenage daughter for her upcoming junior prom experience. 8. Prom King — and Possible Drag Queen uberhavoc.com This prom queen looks more like a drag queen thanks to this scary makeup job. She definitely overdid it with the cat-eye look. Who knows? It could very well be two men. Either way, we’re not judging! 9. Mercenary Moment onjacksonstreet.com This family prom photo needs lots of explaining. Everybody is all smiles, but her prom dress looks like it was modeled after a tablecloth. And what’s with the matching vest? Oh, and the shirtless dad brandishing a rifle looks like he’s posing for the cover of Guns & Ammo. Also, check out the little brother behind them in the tree. We can’t imagine what his prom photo will look like. 10. Shotgun Threesome dailylifestyle.com What’s up with this gun-toting threesome? The middleman might be wishing the male date well, but the latter looks like he’s hoping the gun doesn’t go off. The girl, smiling brightly for the camera, is seemingly oblivious to it all. 11. Floral Camouflage runt-of-the-web.com This couple had the best of intentions, opting for a floral backdrop for their prom photo. Her red dress brings out the white daffodils, and her white choker is a perfect matching accessory. We wonder what her date, crouching behind a bush, is hiding. 12. Headdress Trumps the Dress runt-of-the-web.com This lace dress is perfectly subdued in comparison to her elaborate headdress, which looks like it’s about to take flight. The gold sunglasses are cutting out the glare of her casually jean-jacketed date. 13. The Hair's the Thing Reddit.com/boilons This guy wanted to end his high school years with a pointed statement. He wrote on Reddit, “High school prom in 1998. I had really long curly hair and wanted to cut it off soon, so I went out with a bang.” At least he wore a tux. We wonder how much product he had to use to get it to stick up straight like that. 14. The Bronzed and the Beautiful dailylifestyle.com These prom couples went for a twins approach with matching poses on matching chairs. The only thing that doesn’t quite match up is their attention to skin care. While the women are lily white, it looks like the men just enjoyed a full day of sun at the beach. Perhaps they had a two-for-one tanning salon session. 15. Future Planning runt-of-the-web.com This prom couple already has their future planned out. Posing in front of a Planned Parenthood building, it’s apparent that they are taking responsibility for preventative measures. There will be no shotgun wedding for this pair. 16. A Tall Order Awkwardfamilyphotos.com There’s something to be said about dating a tall woman. This guy seems very secure with his prom date towering over him. We wonder if she was wearing heels, to boot. 17. A Catty Date imgur.com/caroline12006 If you can’t find a date for the prom, the second best option is to take your cat. This guy looks very content with his kitty, dressed in pink, in his arms. What’s even better is the adoring, unconditional, dreamy look of love she has for him. 18. My Date, the Mop Reddit.com/thelemonx This guy decided to take matters into his own hands and dress up a mop to be his prom date. What really stands out, though, is his blonde ‘fro and mutton chops. The picture of the generic silhouette hanging in the background just might explain a lot. 19. The Devil Made Them Do It runt-of-the-web.com Perhaps this couple thought it was going to a Halloween ball rather than the prom. They must have been quite devilish together throughout their school years. She put her foot down with the horns, though, choosing to wear them rather than having them jut out of her forehead. Kudos to the face-paint dude: It probably ran all over his face as he worked up a sweat on the dance floor. 20. The Stormy Couple viralboom.com Perhaps these two are foreshadowing their desire to be weather forecasters. Her little rainbow prom number is adorably accented with her smiley umbrella.
