Sometimes life gets tough. Lucky for us, The Honeymooners, helped us chill out a little for the time being by supplying us with life lessons embedded within each episode. Ralph Kramden, Alice Kramden, and Ed Norton were just everyday people just like you and me. What made that great was that they were humans. They made mistakes and remained humble, hard-working Americans. Whether they were in a heap of trouble, dealing with personal struggles, or just wriggling themselves out of a sticky situation, the cast always knew the perfect way to make the audience feel welcome. The Honeymooners really did have so much more to offer us than the funniness and its quirky storylines. What were the lessons we were learned from this show? Well... At the end of the day, it's always the thought that counts. In the episode, “‘Twas The Night Before Christmas,” Alice buys Ralph a bag for his bowling ball, which is more or less useless because Ralph just pawned the ball to afford Alice’s gift. Although things don’t turn out as they wanted it to, they both appreciate the time and effort they put into each other’s presents. Because in the end of the day, it's the thought that counts. A stable friendship can sometimes make you rich. In the episode, "Better Living Through TV," Ralph and his best buddy Ed find themselves on live TV to promote one on Ralph's newest get-rich-quick schemes, his new multi-purpose kitchen tool. .When Ralph suddenly gets stage fright, Ed is there to help him through it. This dynamic duo once again finds themselves in a sticky situation, but being the friends they are, they get through it. Because that's what friends are for. Always make sure your train is going in the right direction. In the episode, “Unconventional Behavior,” Ralph and Ed are on a train en route to a raccoon convention after they lose their wives at the station. They end up being on wrong train the whole time, going in the opposite direction. That’s why it’s always a good idea to double check where your train is headed! In the episode, "the Bensonhurst Bomber," Ralph starts an argument with a smaller guy at the pool hall. Ralph feels big and strong until the small man's friend Harvey walks over. This man then challenges Ralph to a fight...Never count your chickens before they hatch. In the episode "Funny Money," Ralph discovers a suitcase full of money. He decides to spend all of it without thinking of the consequences. All the money, however, turns out to be counterfeit! Plus, the owner of the suitcase wants all the money back! You don't know everything. In the episode "The $99,000 Answer." Ralph gets a chance to go onto a game show. He claims he knows every title of every song but the one song he can't remember the name of happens to be the song Ed has been playing on the piano the whole day! In the episode, "Young at Heart," Alice is visited by a teenager and begins to become nostalgic of her youth. She asks Ralph to go rollerskating to gain their youth back. He ends up falling and hurts himself. After a few attempts of being young again, Ralph and Alice soon find out that just thinking about the good old days is what really keeps you "young at heart." Don't be ashamed to be yourself. In the episode, "A Man's Pride," Ralph meets Alice's ex. He swiftly learns of the man's big successes. Ralph becomes insecure about his career as a bus driver and he pretends to be a rich hotshot. He offers to pay the bill at their restaurant meeting, expecting for the rich man to say no and cover it, but Ralph ends up being responsible for this enormous check! He quickly learns that he should have just stayed true to himself. Always make your apologies in person. In the episode, "A Matter of Record," Ralph gets into a fight with Alice's mother and throws her out of the apartment. He asks Ed to record him as he apologizes for this, and he sends it to his wife. Alice ends up getting the wrong recording, where Ralph calls her mom a "blabbermouth." This being said, maybe an in-person apology would have gone over much better.
