According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Salmonella causes about 1.2 million illnesses every year, and contaminated food is usually the cause of illness. Salmonella is serious and has been known to cause fatal infections in young children, the elderly or people with weakened immune systems if not treated immediately.
