The fastest way to a person’s heart is through their stomach. Famously, Tom Cruise gifts his friends a very particular cake for the holiday season and recently, John Travolta‘s daughter Ella Bleu recreated that exact recipe.
69-year-old Travolta shares Ella, 23, with his late wife Kelly Preston, who died at age 57 in July 2020 after battling cancer. Travolta is also the father of son Benjamin, 12. Travolta sometimes shares photos and videos of his kids showing off their latest crafts and feats and his latest post is all about Ella Bleu’s mission to recreate Tom Cruise’s famous coconut bundt cake.

On Monday, Travolta took to Instagram to share a video of Ella baking the coconut bundt cake Cruise has been giving his friends since at least the ’90s. “What do we have?” Travolta can be heard asking in the video. In response, Ella explains, “This is a remake of the Tom Cruise cake.”

Travolta alternates between filming Ella’s baking challenge and himself, muttering, “I’m watching. I’m watching.” Ella admits “it’s a little bit messier” as she spreads yellow frosting and sprinkles on coconut shavings. But it’s not just messy, “It’s delicious, oh my goodness,” Travolta declares after trying some. Benjamin agrees, “Good. It’s really good.” Of course, his plate is just about wiped clean.
Spreading the coconut cake affection
It’s not a venue that you arrive at as a VIP. There’s no star emblazoned with a name to declare it. But getting a Tom Cruise coconut bundt cake is something of an exclusive club that whoever gained membership likes to mention whenever possible.
“This cake is so great you can really only have it once a year,” praised Tom Hanks, a bundt cake recipient.
The dessert in question is from Doan’s Bakery in Woodland Hills, California. and news outlets list the price from anywhere between $50 to $110. People also notes that potential consumers can get it on Goldbelly if they’re not local to the Golden State.
Kirsten Dunst has had no problem getting her hands on one; she’s been getting a cake from Cruise ever since the two worked together in ’94. “He gives me a cake every Christmas,” she revealed in 2016. “We call it the Cruise cake at my house. It’s the best coconut cake I’ve ever had in my life.”
