Maureen McCormick of The Brady Bunch wrote that she is “heartbroken” over the death of her “sweet, kind and dear friend Ed. Mark Hamill of Star Wars fame also worked on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, where Asner himself left such a sizable impression as Lou Grant, also paid his respects to his former colleague. He called him a “great man” and a “great actor” who led a “great life” before thanking him and hoping that Asner might be able to rest peacefully.

First, he worked with actor and screenwriter Michael McKean on the 1999 stop-motion cartoon Snowden’s Christmas. To commemorate this, McKean took to social media and shared, “Ed Asner was a fine man and a great actor. He was tough in the ways that count and suffered no fools. Asner may have gotten his start in 1950, but he stayed relevant in the hearts of celebrities and viewers across generations. In 2018, he acted alongside Denis O’Hare in The Parting Glass, inspiring O’Hare to write, “One of the joys of my life was having Ed Asner as my Dad. He kindly said yes to doing my first screenplay.
