Candace Cameron Bure is opening up in a deeply emotional way about her lifelong struggle with body image. On a recent episode of her podcast, the Full House alum fought back tears while reflecting on the harsh ways she treated her body over the years.

The 49-year-old actress shared that her issues began in childhood, recalling how by fifth grade, she was already comparing herself to others and feeling inadequate. She admitted to trying every major diet program from a young age, including Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, and Nutrisystem, in an effort to chase unattainable body ideals fueled by ‘90s supermodel culture.

The conversation took a profound turn as Bure recounted a vivid dream that changed her perspective. She was inspired by the biblical story of Balaam and his donkey, noting that she saw herself in Balaam, harshly beating something that had served her faithfully. In her dream, she realized she had spent years “whipping” her body with criticism and unrealistic expectations.

Through tears, Bure shared how the dream allowed her body to “speak back” to her, reminding her of its strength and loyalty. It asked, “Am I not your legs that carry you? Am I not your arms that feed you?” The revelation was transformative, and for the first time, she saw her body not as something to fix, but as a gift she had been mistreating.

Newfound self-acceptance through faith and therapy

Bure credited therapy and her Christian faith with guiding her to healing. She explained the dream was an act of God and one that caused her to realize the abuse she had been putting her body through for decades. It was a turning point in how she viewed her body and her value as a person.

The actress now urges others to consider how they talk to themselves, and hopes her experience teaches others to accept self-kindness. Bure’s openness reminds us that even well-known celebrities fight as well, and healing sometimes starts from the inside out.
