91-Year-Old Jamie Farr Reveals He Spoke With Loretta Swit The Night She Died

by Dana Daly

Published October 16, 2026

Jamie Farr has shared a deeply personal memory of his late M*A*S*H co-star Loretta Swit, revealing that he spoke with her on the night she died. He learned the following morning that the actress, his longtime friend and former castmate, had passed away.

According to Yahoo Entertainment, that final conversation gives the Jamie Farr and Loretta Swit friendship an especially poignant ending. In a recent interview, Farr looked back on the bond they shared off-screen, recalling family gatherings, funny memories, and the closeness that lasted long after their years on the classic television series.

During an appearance on the Pop Culture Retro podcast, Farr spoke about spending time with Swit and her family, including her mother, Nell, and brother, Bob. One of his more humorous memories involved a holiday gathering when Nell accidentally became locked inside a bathroom and paramedics had to help.

Host Moosie Drier also played a previous clip of Swit speaking warmly about Farr. The moment gave him another opportunity to reflect on a friendship that clearly meant far more than their professional connection as M*A*S*H co-stars.

Farr revealed that he had spoken with Swit the night before she died at her New York City home on May 30, 2025, at 87. That final conversation makes the Jamie Farr and Loretta Swit story especially moving, reflecting a friendship that lasted decades beyond M*A*S*H. On the beloved series, Farr played Corporal Maxwell Klinger while Swit portrayed Major Margaret “Hot Lips” Houlihan throughout its 11-season run.

Yet Farr’s latest memories focus less on television history and more on the person he knew away from the set. His stories about Swit’s family, their friendship, and their final conversation offer a more intimate portrait of a bond that continued long after the cameras stopped rolling. For viewers who spent years watching them on M*A*S*H, Farr’s recollections add another layer to that nostalgia. The characters may have belonged to television, but the friendship behind them was very real.
