A montage of the prolific career of John Candy could be a movie all on its own, and Ryan Reynolds has plans to do something along those lines. The Canadian-born actor announced plans to make a documentary all about the Uncle Buck star.
Candy, who would have been 72 this Halloween, is survived by wife Rosemary Hobor and two children, Christopher and Jennifer. Chris and Jen offered responses to Reynolds’ big news with encouraging words of their own that indicate this is something to get excited about.

With John Candy trending, I’ll just say I love him. So much so, @maximumeffort is working on a documentary on his life with @colinhanks. Expect tears.

Recently, John Candy was trending on Twitter, which drove Reynolds to share an exciting announcement. “With John Candy trending, I’ll just say I love him,” he began. “So much so, @maximumeffort is working on a documentary on his life with @colinhanks. Expect tears.” Tears are a guaranteed experience for anything related to John Candy; just ask his former co-star Steve Martin.

Maximum Effort is the film production company established by Reynolds himself, and gets its name from a catchphrase originating from Reynolds’ Deadpool days. Colin Hanks, eldest son of Tom Hanks, is also an actor and works as a director. But it seems the documentary has involvement – or at least endorsement – from others directly tied to the late comedian as well.
Candy’s children promote Reynolds’ documentary
Making a program based on a real person can have some extreme, divided reactions, especially if that person is deceased. So far, it sounds like Candy’s children are all for Reynolds’ project. Chris responded to the announcement by confirming, “This is all true,” ending with a heart. Jen added in her own reply, “Boom! So looking forward to working on this with them and our family. This project is in great hands @ChrisCandy4u @VancityReynolds @ColinHanks @MaximumEffort.”
A representative for Reynolds further confirmed, “The Candy family is giving Maximum Effort access to his archive and home video footage.” That’s a lot of valuable footage on top of Candy’s celebrated career that began in 1971. Sadly, he was just 43 when he died in 1994 from a heart attack; even right before his passing, he had been busy filming East West. Reynolds has over the years celebrated Candy with tribute posts and while there is no confirmed release window for the documentary, it has all the ingredients to be something special.
