I felt like compiling a list of songs that were on Billboard's top list, March 20th from 1970-1979. Going back to the list of songs, was such a nostalgic time. Not one song from these years was a bad song. Not one memory I related to, was a bad memory. This was a fun search...going back to musical archives that will always be archived in my mind. The order goes as follows: Year of Song, Song Title, Musician(s), Lyrics And A Video. I hope you enjoy this trip down memory lane as much as I did putting this together... 1970 - Bridge Over Troubled Water - Simon & Garfunkel When you're weary, feeling small, When tears are in your eyes I will dry them all I'm on your side When times get rough And friends just can't be found Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me downWhen you're down and out When you're on the street When evening falls so hard I will comfort you I'll take your part When darkness comes And pain is all around Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me downSail on, silvergirl Sail on by Your time has come to shine All your dreams are on their way See how they shine If you need a friend I'm sailing right behind Like a bridge over troubled water I will ease your mind Like a bridge over troubled water I will ease your mind https://youtu.be/H_a46WJ1viA 1971 - Me And Bobby McGee - Janis Joplin Busted flat in Baton Rouge, waiting for a train I was feeling near as faded as my jeans. Bobby thumbed a diesel down just before it rained, And rode us all the way to New Orleans. I pulled my harpoon out of my dirty red bandanna, I was playing soft while Bobby sang the blues. Windshield wipers slapping time, I was holding Bobby's hand in mine, We sang every song the driver knew. Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose, Nothing don't mean nothing honey if it ain't free, now now. And feeling good was easy laugh when he sang the blues, You know feeling good was good enough for me, Good enough for me and my Bobby McGee. From the Kentucky coal mines to the California sun, Hey, Bobby shared the secrets of my soul. Through all kinds of weather, through everything that we done, Hey Bobby baby kept me from the cold. One day up near Salinas, Lord, I let him slip away, He's looking for that home and I hope he finds it, But I'd trade all of my tomorrows for one single yesterday To be holding Bobby's body next to mine. Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose, Nothing, and that's all that Bobby left me, yeah, And feeling good was easy laugh when he sang the blues, Hey, feeling good was good enough for me, hmm hmm, Good enough for me and my Bobby McGee. https://youtu.be/WXV_QjenbDw 1972 - Heart of Gold - Neil Young I want to live, I want to give I've been a miner for a heart of gold. It's these expressions I never give That keep me searching for a heart of gold. And I'm getting old. Keep me searching for a heart of gold And I'm getting old.I've been to Hollywood I've been to Redwood I crossed the ocean for a heart of gold. I've been in my mind, It's such a fine line That keeps me searching for a heart of gold. And I'm getting old. Keeps me searching for a heart of gold And I'm getting old.Keep me searching for a heart of gold. You keep me searching and I'm growing old. Keep me searching for a heart of gold I've been a miner for a heart of gold. https://youtu.be/Eh44QPT1mPE 1973 Killing Me softly - Roberta Flack Strumming my pain with his fingers Singing my life with his words Killing me softly with his song Killing me softly with his song Telling my whole life with his words Killing me softly with his song I heard he sang a good song I heard he had a style And so I came to see him To listen for a while And there he was this young boy A stranger to my eyes Strumming my pain with his fingers Singing my life with his words Killing me softly with his song Killing me softly with his song Telling my whole life with his words Killing me softly with his song I felt all flushed with fever Embarassed by the crowd I felt he found my letters And read each one out loud I prayed that he would finish But he just kept right on Strumming my pain with his fingers Singing my life with his words Killing me softly with his song Killing me softly with his song Telling my whole life with his words Killing me softly with his song He sang as if he knew me In all my dark despair And then he looked right through me As if I wasn't there And he just kept on singing Singing clear and strong Strumming my pain with his fingers Singing my life with his words Killing me softly with his song Killing me softly with his song Telling my whole life with his words Killing me softly with his song Strumming my pain with his fingers Singing my life with his words Killing me softly with his song Killing me softly with his song Telling my whole life with his words Killing me He was strumming my pain Yeah, he was singing my life Killing me softly with his song Killing me softly with his song Telling my whole life with his words Killing me softly With his song https://youtu.be/5OyM0R5uRPQ 1974 - There is something goin' down and I can feel it.On the waves of the air, there is dancin' out there. If it's somethin' we can share, we can steal it.And that sweet city woman, she moves through the light, controlling my mind and my soul. When you reach out for me yeah, and the feelin' is bright, then I get night fever, night fever. We know how to do it. Gimme that night fever, night fever. We know how to show it.Here I am, prayin' for this moment to last, livin' on the music so fine, borne on the wind, makin' it mine. Night fever, night fever. We know how to do it. Gimme that night fever, night fever. We know how to show it. In the heat of our love, don't need no help for us to make it. Gimme just enough to take us to the mornin'. I got fire in my mind. I got higher in my walkin'. And I'm glowin' in the dark; I give you warnin'. And that sweet city woman, she moves through the light, controlling my mind and my soul. When you reach out for me yeah, and the feelin' is bright, then I get night fever, night fever. We know how to do it. Gimme that night fever, night fever. We know how to show it. Here I am, prayin' for this moment to last, livin' on the music so fine, borne on the wind, makin' it mine. Night fever, night fever. We know how to do it. Gimme that night fever, night fever. And so you're back from outer space. I just walked in to find you here with that sad look upon your face I should have changed that stupid lock I should have made you leave your key If I had known for just one second you'd be back to bother me Go on now, go. Walk out the door Just turn around now 'cause you're not welcome anymore Weren't you the one who tried to hurt me with goodbye? Did you think I'd crumble? Did you think I'd lay down and die? Oh, no, not I! I will survive. Oh, as long as I know how to love I know I'll stay alive. I've got all my life to live. I've got all my love to give. And I'll survive, I will survive, hey, hey. It took all the strength I had not to fall apart. Kept trying hard to mend the pieces of my broken heart. And I spent, oh, so many nights just feeling sorry for myself. I used to cry but now I hold my head up high. And you see me somebody new. I'm not that chained-up little person still in love with you. And so you felt like dropping in, And just expect me to be free. And now I'm saving all my loving for someone who's loving me. Go on now, go. Walk out the door. Just turn around now 'cause you're not welcome anymore. Weren't you the one who tried to break me with goodbye? Did you think I'd crumble? Did you think I'd lay down and die? Oh, no, not I! I will survive. Oh, as long as I know how to love I know I'll stay alive. I've got all my life to live. I've got all my love to give. And I'll survive, I will survive. https://youtu.be/XZGwHtGBZJU Sources: Billboard and YouTube What was your favorite song from this list? Share in the comment section below!
