Gelatin is a seemingly innocuous ingredient you are probably most familiar with in your favorite, jiggly dessert: Jell-O. This animal protein (consisting of collagen) is actually used in a lot of products, from makeup to gummy bears. But this versatile ingredient offers a lot more benefits than just keeping your favorite treat gelled, according to Healthy and Natural World. Some researchers believe that the collagen properties of this common ingredient offer a variety of health benefits, particularly for patients with arthritis and other bone and joint problems. 1. Relieves Any Joint Pain As Dr. Ray Peat, a hormone specialist will tell you on his website, if you consume gelatin you can expect an almost immediate effect, similar to that of aspirin, on any achy joints you might be suffering from. 2. Soothe Any Osteoporosis Symptoms The American Academy of Family Physicians in Dallas had done a study and discovered that gelatin could provide some much-needed relief for knee osteoporosis symptoms, which can be quite painful. 3. Helps with Digestion Gelatin contains helpful amino acids which line your stomach, thus aiding in digestion and reducing any inflammation. Also, here’s a helpful tip: if you find yourself bothering with regular issues concerning digestion try and chew on some homemade gelatin gummies or sipping on some bone broth after a meal. 4. Heals Any Stomach Ulcers Innovations Report had published a 2006 article on certain study findings in which they claimed that gelatin could help speed up the healing process of those bothersome stomach ulcers. 5. Strengthens Your Fingernails Pinterest Try soaking your nails in a solution made from about half an ounce of gelatin and one cup of water for about 2 minutes. The pleasant transformation is sure to surprise you. 6. Improves the Quality of Your Hair Pinterest If you want to condition, strengthen and thicken your hair, gelatin can help with that too. What you need to do is stir one tablespoon of gelatin powder into half a cup of cool water. Once you’ve thoroughly mixed it, add one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar, half a cup of warm water, and one teaspoon honey. Give this a good stir until you get a thick gel. Then just massage it into your hair and scalp. Let this treatment soak for about 5 minutes or even longer, then simply rinse with hot water. 7. Reduce Any Wrinkles By consuming gelatin, it infuses your body with collagen and amino acids, both of which are needed to fill out the wrinkles on your face, as well as diminish any stretch marks which may have formed over the years. 8. Improves the Quality of Your Sleep According to Dr. Ray Peat, after years of getting restless, insufficient sleep, you can help your case with gelatin. It turns out that consuming gelatin before hitting the sack grants a person nine hours of uninterrupted slumber. This is great news for anyone struggling to get some decent shut-eye (ideally, 8 hours a night). Take Note! As healthy and helpful as it is, one should be aware that gelatin is made from the collagenous tendons, joints and connective tissue of animals such as pigs, cows, and fish. That means it is in no way vegetarian, and for those of you looking for vegetarian alternatives, you are of course free to do so, but it is fair to us to inform you that they will not have the same health benefits.
