Marriage requires a lot of important ingredients to flourish. For John and Charlotte Henderson, that equation sustained their marriage for 80 years now. They are both at respectable ages as well. John Henderson is 107 while his wife is 105. They've seen numerous major events in American history and world history. They have seen an era when kings sent armies to conquer lands and watched the first man go into outer space. And they witnessed all of this together as the world's oldest married couple.

November marked their 80ths wedding anniversary. Now, in 2020, they celebrate the day of love with a strong marriage that's stood the test of time. Even before getting married, they stayed together as loved ones before tying the knot. Counting that time, they've actually been together for 85 years!
John and Charlotte met during a completely different era

1934 marks the first time these two future soulmates met. They crossed paths at a zoology class at the University of Texas. Sometimes proper love takes a while to manifest, but for these two, they certainly knew they'd met someone special. "Well, I'll tell you, he was just the nicest man you ever met," Charlotte stated.

RELATED: World’s Oldest Man Is A 112-Year-Old Japanese Man And His Secret To Longevity Is ‘Smiling’

Meanwhile, John was equally set on being with her as she was with him. "When I just saw her and got to talking to her, I don't think I ever had another date after that one day in the class," he recalled. With Prohibition only recently terminated, the two bonded over Coca-Cola on their first date.
They love each other as much as they did the first day

They say distance makes the heart grow fonder. But John and Charlotte remain enthusiastically in love to this day. "He's pretty romantic, when you get down to it," Charlotte wanted to make clear. That's why she still gets handmade Valentine's Day gifts each year from John, always with "a little love note on it." Charlotte reciprocates through writing as well, particularly romantic poetry. Though they never had children, the Texas couple has spent their days happily retired since the '70s.

Several long-lasting couples emphasize the importance of communication and humor in a relationship. Fortunately, John and Charlotte are in no short supply of both those things. That's why they're the oldest living couple with a long relationship shared between them. Indeed, last year Guinness World Records recognized them for being the world's oldest living couple. The two have been together so long, neither really have any other plans at all. When asked what life would be like without Charlotte, John replied, "Well, I don't know. I never tried it." Charlotte was quick to stress, "And he better not."
