Andrea Barber and Jodie Sweetin took a trip down memory lane during a recent episode of their How Rude, Tanneritos! podcast. They reflected on a spooky episode from Full House season three, which featured the dream sequence both actresses can hardly forget.
The “Bye Bye Birdie” episode aired in 1990, with the youngest of the Tanner household, Michelle, starting preschool. The family, including Danny, Jesse, and Becky, put Michelle to bed the night before, and she has the creepiest dream ever, according to Andrea and Jodie.
What did Michelle Tanner dream of?
Michelle’s dream commences with her in a pink princess dress, complete with frills and a cute headband. She stands in a room with huge toys, Lori Loughlin’s Becky playing hide-and-seek in a sailor outfit, and her hair is in pigtails.
Bob Saget’s Danny looked like Alfalfa from the Little Rascals movie, while Jesse, played by John Stamos, shows up as a cowboy. Behind a terrifying large bug was Dave Couiler’s Joey, who had a toy horse attached to him. Jodie joked that Lori looked like Edith Ann from Laugh-In in the ‘70s.
Why was the episode so eerie?
Andrea recounted her confusion at the episode, saying she was not sure what the rest of their co-stars, except for the Olsen twins, were meant to be. Michelle looked bigger than them, suggesting that her family were her new toys at preschool; however, Sweetin felt the intention was to make the adults look kid-sized.
Andrea added that the dream sequence was of no benefit to the plot, and Jodie joked that the show writers were probably pissed at Saget, Stamos, Lori, and Dave that they decided to depict them that way. She recalled that Stamos looked uncomfortable while filming the scene and most likely confronted showrunner Jeff Franklin about it.
