- The reboot show for One Day at a Time (originally a series by Norman Lear in 1975) was not up for renewal by Netflix after its third season falls in ratings.
- However, the show is now up for renewal by a new network and is releasing the fourth season sometime next year.
- Despite an apparent decrease in ratings, critics are rating the show very generously.
One Day at a Time is being saved from cancelation! The reboot, which served three seasons on Netflix, is being picked up by the cable network Pop TV for the fourth season. The new season will be airing sometime next year. The first episode of the reboot aired in 2017, and it was inspired by Norman Lear’s 1975 series of the same name.
The reboot’s creator, Gloria Calderón Kellett, announces the exciting news on Twitter. Fans of the show are so happy that it’s here to stay.
Why did Netflix not pick the show back up for another season?

“WE’RE BACK! Thanks to every fan who made #saveodaat trend worldwide, ONE DAY AT A TIME is heading to POP TV & we couldn’t be more excited!” Gloria says on social media. “We have many more stories to tell about & we can’t wait to share them with you! Thank you @sptv &@PopTV!”
Netflix had originally declined to renew the show after ratings dropped following season three. Fans of One Day at a Time did not take this news lightly and it caused quite the uproar! Fans would soon launch an online petition called #SaveODAAT, which the show’s creator mentions in her tweet. Along with Gloria, co-creator Mike Royce, and the show’s cast members have all been in support of the petition to keep the ball rolling with the reboot.
What the fans are saying now
While nothing truly beats the classics, the reboot has actually done fairly well with the critics. Statistics show that 97% of Google users like the show. It also scores an 8.3/10 on IMDb and a surprising 98% on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s safe to say that despite low season three ratings, it’s been both a fan and critic favorite nonetheless!
The fan base is incredibly happy to see the show being renewed. Check out what everyone is saying!

Kept #SaveODAAT in my name since right after Netflix canceled and on this blessed day I got to change it to #MoreODAAT to celebrate. Thank you PopTV and thank you to everyone who kept fighting for this, especially the ODAAT family themselves.
