The cast of Wings came together again for a reunion filled with laughter, memories, and a deeply personal purpose. Amy Yasbeck reunited with former costars Tim Daly, Steven Weber, and Tony Shalhoub at the John Ritter Foundation for Aortic Health’s annual “Evening from the Heart LA” benefit.
According to TVInsider, the John Ritter Wings connection made the gathering especially meaningful. Yasbeck starred as Casey Chapel Davenport on the NBC sitcom, while Ritter later appeared on the series as her character’s ex-husband. Decades later, the cast reunited not only to remember the show but also to support the foundation Yasbeck created after Ritter’s sudden death.
The Connection Between John Ritter And ‘Wings’ Connection Gave the Reunion Extra Meaning
Yasbeck said she had wanted to bring her former castmates together for a long time. Writer Steven Levitan also joined the group onstage as they looked back on the sitcom, which ran from 1990 to 1997 and centered on a small commuter airline operating from Nantucket.
Getting everyone in the same room required some effort. Weber works in Chicago on Chicago Med, Shalhoub came in from Manhattan, and Daly was working in Los Angeles. Once reunited, however, the old chemistry returned quickly. Daly said that despite spending years apart, being together again felt almost like picking up the conversation the next day.
The Night Also Honored Ritter’s Lasting Legacy
The event carried a more serious purpose because of the circumstances surrounding Ritter’s death. On Sept. 11, 2003, the actor became ill while rehearsing for 8 Simple Rules. Doctors initially suspected a heart attack, but he had actually suffered an acute thoracic aortic dissection. He died at age 54. Yasbeck later created the John Ritter Foundation for Aortic Health to raise awareness about aortic disease and support research. Shalhoub praised the way she transformed her grief into work aimed at helping other families avoid the same tragedy.
The John Ritter Wings connection also gave Yasbeck a personal memory to share. Ritter guest-starred in a 1996 episode as Casey’s ex-husband, linking two important parts of her life. Years later, the Wings reunion became more than nostalgia, bringing Daly, Weber, Shalhoub, and Yasbeck together while honoring Ritter’s warmth and supporting the lifesaving mission that carries his name.
