What happens when you mix an old hockey stick, loud spectators, and a few pro golfers? You get a return to one of the wildest golf stories ever told. Happy Gilmore 2 is finally here, and this time, it’s more than just a trip down memory lane; it’s a full-on family reunion with new faces, old rivalries, and a trailer packed with Easter eggs for fans.
The first Happy Gilmore aired nearly 30 years ago, and it quickly became a fan favorite for its mix of comedy, sports, and chaos. Now, Netflix is bringing the wild golf hero back to the screen, and from the look of the trailer, Happy hasn’t lost his swing. Fortunately, the release date is not far.

Adam Sandler returns as Happy Gilmore, and he’s not alone. Julie Bowen, who played Virginia, and Christopher McDonald, the unforgettable Shooter McGavin, are back, too.
But there are also fresh faces. Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio (a.k.a. Bad Bunny), Eric André, and Margaret Qualley are just a few of the new additions. Qualley shared a fun behind-the-scenes story about how her husband exaggerated her golf skills to help her land the role, only for her to admit later that she can barely play. Still, she called working on the movie “the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”
Professional golfers also join the fun, including Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau, and many more. Some appear as themselves, while others join Happy on the Green. One scene even shows Scheffler doing the famous “shooter hands” gesture — a nod to McDonald’s character from the original.
Behind the scenes, the original creative team is also back. Co-writer Tim Herlihy teams up with Sandler, and Happy Gilmore director Dennis Dugan serves as executive producer. The new director, Kyle Newacheck, who previously worked with Sandler on Murder Mystery, takes the helm this time. But it doesn’t end there, the trailer even reveals that Happy and Virginia got married and started a family with five kids, to be exact. Their oldest daughter, Vienna, dreams of being a ballerina, while their sons carry on Happy’s wild spirit on and off the golf course.
Sandler’s real-life daughters, Sunny and Sadie, appear in the film, continuing the family theme. Even Sandler’s wife, Jackie, makes a cameo, showing that Happy Gilmore 2 isn’t just a sequel, it’s a family project.
When is the release date for ‘Happy Gilmore 2?’
The trailer, which premiered at Netflix’s Tudum 2025 event, is filled with throwbacks. There’s the hockey stick putter, the Subway sponsorship, the Boston Bruins jersey, and even the big tournament checks stored in Happy’s basement. Happy Gilmore 2 doesn’t shy away from what fans loved the first time. It features the jokes, the drama, and the heart-warming scenes. Whether it’s Happy recreating the moment he once choked his caddie or Shooter McGavin popping up to remind everyone he still wants the spotlight, the sequel balances new stories with old vibes.
The trailer even brings in iconic lines from the original, like Ben Stiller’s “You’re in my world now” and Eminem himself shouting “Jackass!” — a classic insult from the first film. The movie has something for everyone: sports fans, longtime followers of the franchise, comedy lovers, and even those new to the story. With its mix of heartfelt moments, wild cameos, and plenty of laughs, it appears that Happy Gilmore 2 will be one of the year’s most exciting releases. So, when is Happy Gilmore 2 coming out? Mark your calendar for July 25, when it hits Netflix.
