Over the past few months, Billy Joel has been dealing with a number of health issues that forced him to make a tough decision. In March, the five-time Grammy Award winner announced that eight of his tour dates would be postponed. The reason was a medical condition that required surgery, followed by months of physical therapy under the care of his doctors.
His team confirmed the tour would be delayed for four months so he could recover fully. Billy also spoke directly to fans, saying he hated to disappoint them but needed time to get better. He promised to return to the stage once his doctors give him the green light.

Billy’s wife, Alexis Joel, recently shared how things have been going. She explained that Billy is doing well overall, especially considering how long he’s been performing. She pointed out that even though people may not see him as someone in his mid-70s, he’s almost 76 and has been working nearly nonstop for more than 15 years, only taking a break during the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Alexis, this constant work schedule can take a toll on anyone. She said it became clear that these postponements are necessary to allow him to recover properly. Alexis added that while it has been a big adjustment, Billy is expected to make a complete comeback. The tour will pick back up in Pittsburgh on July 5, 2025.
Billy Joel’s wife also battled a medical condition
Alexis, who usually stays behind the scenes, also faced her own health struggles recently. She revealed during Endometriosis Awareness Month in March that she had been living with endometriosis. Her condition caused constant pain and confusion for a long time, and it took a while before she and Billy understood what was happening.
Alexis explained how hard it was to manage family life, travel, and pain without clear answers. Billy supported her through that time by helping with their kids and doing research on her condition. Their experience has now turned into a mission to help others understand and manage endometriosis better.
