The Monkees, consisting of Micky Dolenz, Davy Jones, Michael Nesmith, and Peter Tork, were originally not intended to be a real band. Starting as a fictional one on a TV show, they released four albums during the show’s two-season run and nine when they launched their career fully. Sadly, most of the bandmates have passed away, leaving Micky Dolenz as the only surviving member.
Dolenz, who celebrated his 80th birthday last month, revealed in a recent interview that he is happy to be in good health and still be able to perform at 80.

Dolenz remains happy at being able to maintain his stage presence, comparing his relentless energy to that of the Energizer Bunny. The singer speaks on The Monkees’ career transformation from TV to real singers
In a previous interview with Business Journal Daily, the singer shed light on how the band was able to transition from a fictional TV band into a real music act. He explained that while The Monkees began as a television show centered around an imaginary band, the cast’s ability to play instruments and sing, skills that were necessary during the audition process, allowed them to metamorphose into a real band. He likened the transformation to Pinocchio becoming a real boy, while emphasizing the fascinating shift from fantasy to reality.
Although several decades have passed and all his bandmates have died, Dolenz explains that he is always grateful for life and always ready to perform all of their classic hits, especially tracks such as “I’m a Believer” anytime he is fortunate enough to do so.
