Ke Huy Quan has joined the likes of Dwayne Johnson and Charlie Chaplin, among others, as his handprints and footprints have been added to the famous sidewalk in Hollywood. The hand-and-footprint ceremony is usually held to celebrate actors’ contributions to the industry, and Quan has been honored for his comeback in acting. Quan had stayed away from acting for 19 years before returning in 2021. He later won multiple awards, especially for his role in the 2022 film Everything Everywhere All at Once.
He was celebrated with a special ceremony at the TCL Chinese Theatre, but what made the occasion notable was the presence of the cast and crew from The Goonies at the event. Screenwriter Chris Columbus, along with actors Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman, Jeff Cohen, and Kerri Green, were there to celebrate him on this special occasion.
‘The Goonies’ cast reunion was an emotional moment
During the event, Josh Brolin took the stage to deliver a speech, calling Quan “one of the last existences of the American dream.” He then read a letter from Steven Spielberg, who could not attend but praised Quan’s perseverance. “Very few of us get two bites of that apple,” Spielberg wrote.
In addition, screenwriter Chris Columbus and directors Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan shared their thoughts on Quan’s journey. They appreciated him for his impact on the industry and the inspiration he has provided to actors who step away from Hollywood. Meanwhile, the event turned into a reunion, as The Goonies cast talked about their time on set and shared memories.
Ke Huy Quan is ready to revisit The Goonies if the opportunity arises
For Quan, the moment was overwhelming. Seeing his former castmates standing by his side made the occasion even more special. “I felt like a kid again,” he said as he struggled to hold back tears. He also expressed gratitude for the support of his Goonies family and the industry’s warm welcome after his long break from acting. He also took a moment to acknowledge and appreciate the fans of The Goonies.
Naturally, the reunion sparked discussions about a possible sequel. For years, fans have hoped for another adventure, and Quan did not dismiss the idea. “I would be so happy to revisit Data,” he said. “Going on another adventure with my fellow Goonies would be amazing.” Although no official plans exist, the enthusiasm from both the cast and fans keeps the possibility alive. If Hollywood ever decides to bring The Goonies back, the original cast seems more than ready.
