A superfan and entrepreneur Behman Zakeri bought the Goonies house in 2022 for $1.65 million, after working overtime and saving aggressively to jump on the next sale. Now that his dream has come true, Zakeri is worried about his neighbors as fans keep visiting.
The historical house located in Astoria, Oregon, is a hotspot for Goonies fans, some of whom take trips to make it there. While discussing his purchase on Tommy Avalone’s The House From …, he shared his experience finding a balance as a resident and a Goonies lover.
‘Goonies’ new house owner goes back and forth with neighbors over letting fans visit
It all started when the neighbor next door put up a sign that read “Goonies not Welcome,” after Zakeri arrived, and he was furious about their intolerance. He thought it was silly that they chose to live in a neighborhood known for one of the biggest cult classics, and then try to police fans from visiting.
In retaliation, Zakeri put up his own counter-sign, which read, “Hey you guys, Goonies welcome!” while his friend, who purchased the house right beside him, accompanied with a pointer to the offended resident’s home, which read “Ignore Karen.”
Behman Zakeri wants to preserve the ‘Goonies’ legacy
While Zakeri understands the need for peace and quiet in a residential community, he also wants the legacy of Goonies preserved, leaving him confused about what to do. News of Zekari’s dilemma made it to social media, and fans shared their thoughts while also celebrating that a true fan bought the home.
An X user wrote, “What a great time to be a Goonies fan. And finally, the Goonies house has been sold to someone who welcomes fans. No more private property signs!” Some defended the former owner, saying she tried to accommodate fans at first but ended up regretting it due to incessant visits.
