Carrie Fisher’s longtime assistant, Corby McCoin, announced the passing of Gary, the late actress’s cherished French Bulldog. Gary was just a few days shy of his 13th birthday when the heartbreaking news of his passing went up on his Instagram page.
Gary stayed with Fisher for five years, bringing her comfort until her passing in 2016. McCoin then took him in and continued his legacy online, sharing his life with fans for another eight years. Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd, also paid tribute to Gary, posting a touching video of her mother and the pup at a sidewalk café on her IG stories.

After McCoin shared the news, fans did not hesitate to flood the comments section with heartfelt messages. “May you be one with the force always, Gary, we will all miss you dearly,” one fan wrote in a true Star Wars fashion, referencing Carrie’s most famous movie, while another added that Gary is now one with The Force.
Others found comfort in imagining their reunion and shared the thought of this with Billie and McCoin. “I just know his reunion with Carrie was so beautiful. Gary was supportive and loyal to Carrie Fisher during her lifetime
Gary was more than just a furry friend to Carrie, he was also her service dog, gifted to her by her daughter Billie. The bond between pup and owner was undeniable as he helped her cope with bipolar disorder. He accompanied her everywhere, from red-carpet events to talk show appearances.
Fans particularly loved seeing him by her side during the press tour for Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015, where he charmed both online and offline audiences and the interviewers. Gary never left Fisher’s side, even when they suffered a heart attack in December 2016 and had to stay in the hospital.
