Maureen Mccormick Sobriety

Maureen McCormick quit drinking and drug use in her mid-twenties after going through an addiction phase following the finale of The Brady Bunch. Maureen recently recounted her experience as an addict and what it took to live a normal life again.

The child star told USWeekly that she feels lucky to have attained sobriety despite how difficult it was to quit seven years of drinking. She is grateful to be clear-headed and comfortable without having to boost her self-esteem with harmful substances.

Maureen was addicted to hard substances like cocaine as a young adult and even admitted to trading sex for drug supply. This slowed down her career as she missed a potential gig for Steven Spielberg’s Raiders of the Lost Ark after arriving at the audition venue under the influence. Directors and producers began avoiding her as the news of her addiction got out, leading to multiple forgone chances.

Amid her struggles with drugs, coupled with depression and eating disorders, Maureen managed to snag parts in shows like Happy Days, The Love Boat, and Fantasy Island and reprised her role as Marcia Brady in subsequent The Brady Bunch series.

Life after sobriety

After her marriage to Michael Cummings in 1985, Maureen addressed her problem with rehab visits and therapy. She soon began to let go of the drugs and alcohol, but her mental health struggles haunted her for a longer time. Thanks to interventions from her spouse and co-stars, Maureen slowly began to recover.

Now a mother of one, Maureen is also an author with her autobiography Here’s the Story: Surviving Marcia Brady and Finding My True Voice becoming a bestseller in 2008. She has explored other interests, including humanitarian pursuits, entrepreneurship, and reality TV. Maureen reunited once again with her Brady family in 2019 for A Very Brady Renovation, which saw the set house refurnished from the classic.
