Liza Minnelli, although mostly retreating from the spotlight, wants to return to the stage for a final farewell performance. This would be in contrast to her more recent regimen of slowing down and focusing on herself. But it is also in keeping with her long history with the stage.
The 77-year-old alto singer has been working since ’49 and won an award for her performance in the non-Broadway play Best Foot Forward. She made her Broadway debut when she was just 19 in 1965’s Flora the Red Menace, in which she had the title role. The rest is history – a long one that is winding to a close but not without a formal goodbye, if Minnelli has her way.
An insider claims Liza Minnelli is hoping for one final “goodbye” performance
An insider has been sharing updates on Minnelli’s health and her hopes for the future. “[Liza] does have plans to return to the stage one more time to say goodbye, even if it’s in a wheelchair,” the insider claimed. Indeed, the insider claims Minnelli is reportedly ready to do anything to get back on the stage and is “very much looking forward to performing again.”

Last year was an eventful one for Minnelli, although it allegedly did not all go as she desired. In March, she attended the Academy Awards, where she expected to be seated in a producer’s chair and was instead rolled out in a wheelchair.
“She didn’t want people to remember her that way,” a source told RadarOnline, saying the night “turned out horribly” for Minnelli because of that.
Minnelli has cut back on her work to focus on her health
Fans of the “Cabaret” singer can take comfort, however, knowing that Minnelli has been spending this increasing time away from the stage attending to her health, which is rumored to have been declining in recent years.
RadarOnline alleges that Minnelli hasn’t been seen in public for almost a year now and is receiving “around the clock.” A source further outlines, “Liza often fidgets, her hands shake, and she looks look horrible. She sometimes doesn’t know who she’s talking to and has a hard time focusing.”
The source also claimed, “Liza doesn’t leave home much anymore. She’s surrounded by her dogs, her favorite movies and her memories.” All this to better “focus on herself.”
While a final farewell performance is a passionate hope for an unknown future, when asked if she’s releasing more music, Minnelli playfully teased, “I’ve been coming out with new songs since I was born.”
