Robert Reed’s Gift To TV Daughter Eve Plumb Goes Up For Auction

by Dana Daly

Published September 17, 2023

This is the story of a lovely auction

For years, Robert Reed served as a father figure to the young cast of The Brady Bunch. Among the adult cast and crew, Reed had a polarizing reputation, but he was something of an idol to the youngsters. In fact, he gave them helpful gifts throughout their time working together, one of which Eve Plumb owned years later and just put up for auction.

On Wednesday, Plumb, who played middle daughter Jan Brady, announced plans to auction off items from her “very Brady” collection. The sale is conducted through Julien’s Auctions and includes various treasured possessions from Plumb’s very Brady days – though one in particular was specifically from Reed.

Plumb has a series of items specifically from her time filming The Brady Bunch, including one item used to create even more memories.

“One Christmas Robert Reed gave all of us Super Eight cameras,” revealed Plumb, “because he was taking us on a trip — first to New York City and then on the QA2 to London. It was so much fun to be traveling with Robert and everybody in the cast.”

Julien’s Auctions shared a video starring Plumb going over the identity of and meaning behind each item. Footage shows the gifted 8 mm camera itself, specifically a Kodak M24 Instamatic, along with pictures taken by that very device, from personal shots to group photos.

Eve is offering fans a chance to own several personal pieces of history, including scripts from hear early career and trinkets like a Barbie watch. These are priced at $200 to $300, with the camera Reed gave Plumb marked similarly.

But another item was made by Plumb’s own two hands while she was making a treasured sitcom. In the spirit of what her character would do, Ann B. Davis, known to very Brady fans as Alice Nelson, alongside the Brady matriarch Florence Henderson, introduced the rest of the cast to needlepoint.

“In the 1970s, doing needlepoint became quite popular,” Plumb explained. “You could do it all day long and still be quiet while they were filming.” So, she is auctioning off a needlepoint butterfly she herself made, priced like all the rest.

The sale goes live on Tuesday, October 3 and fans have a chance to register for it until that point.
