Among the long and ever-growing list of soap operas, few stand out with such remarkable endurance as The Bold and the Beautiful. Beginning in 1987 and running to the present day, the series has a very extensive cast list. But many manage to stand out, including Ronn Moss, who played the formidable Forrester Creations Empire CEO, Ridge Forrester. But what happened to Moss after he parted ways from the formative program?
Ronn Moss was born on March 4, 1952, in Los Angeles. His start in the limelight came through music; he was just 11 when he started playing all manner of instruments. By ’76, he, along with vocalist Peter Beckett, keyboardist J.C Crowley, and drummer John Friesen created the band Player. They drew attention from Robert Stigwood, who signed them with RSO Records.
Why did Ronn Moss quit?
Music dominated Moss’s early career and successes. He is behind such hits as Baby Come Back,” “This Time I’m in It for Love,” and “Mountain.” While his band enjoyed immediate success, his acting career mirrored this trajectory. He’s been with The Bold and the Beautiful since the start. This set him up to become one of the most recognizable and iconic characters even across a list of 9,000 episodes and counting.

But his time on the show only lasts to 2012. Why? Around the time of his departure, Moss spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the reason for his departure. When asked if salary issues had anything to do with it, he answered, “It had to do with everything involved with it, everything combined,” further calling it “a piece of the whole thing, and it all showed me I need to move forward, not backwards, and I’ve been doing this for 25 years.”
“I felt that I needed to go in this new direction to give myself the chance to do all the creative things that I haven’t had a chance to do in 25 years, because I’ve dedicated so much of my life to this,” he continued. “That’s what I want the fans to hear, how dedicated I am to them. I wouldn’t have done it all this time if I wasn’t dedicated. It’s not just a job! I could do lots of other jobs. I had music, I had lots of other acting things.”
Back to where he began
From start to finish, Moss voiced his love and appreciation for the family he and the rest of the Bold and the Beautiful cast. His chemistry with Katherine Kelly Lang was a subject of great appreciation by the audience, in turn. But ultimately, it was first actress Shari Shattuck – from 1990 to 2002 – then model Devin DeVasquez in 2009 that Moss married. Between The Bold and the Beautiful, along with a recurring role in Familie and a prominent place in the cast of The Bay, Moss built a family and had two children.
On screen, Moss was last in 2022’s Surprise Trip. Otherwise, he has focused on his first passion: music. These days, Moss is 70 and can be found performing solo. His last big live performance was in 2019 in Australia and in Italy for the first time. But for those who can’t catch him live, they can hear his music on his YouTube channel.
