Business Insider ranks Chick-fil-A as the third-largest food chain in America, and beats Wendy’s and Taco Bell in terms of profit. However, its menu might be getting one item shorter, leaving Chick-fil-A customers upset. The item in question is the side salad. But why?
News of its impending removal came through a flyer that apparently announces changes as part of “spring cleaning” for the food chain. The menu change will take effect on April 3. Here is what the restaurant has said.
Chick-fil-A seems to be getting rid of the side salad
On Monday, the Chick-fil-A page for Chick-fil-A Tifton, in Georgia, shared an image to Facebook showing a small announcement flyer in front of the chicken restaurant. “A fond farewell to this menu item,” the caption reads. “We are spring cleaning here at Chick-fil-A and taking this opportunity to refresh our menu. The side salads last day will be April 1st! Come and get them while you can.”
Spring is here, and we are taking the opportunity to refresh our menu. Starting April 3rd, our Side Salad will no longer be offered on the Chick-fil-A menu. We want to continue providing you with quality food and service. We apologize for the inconvenience. pic.twitter.com/7PIyMYfEF2

Meanwhile, the flyer in the photo reads, “Spring is here, and we are taking the opportunity to refresh our menu. One of the changes is a farewell to our Side Salad beginning April 3. We want to continue providing you the quality food and service you’ve come to expect, so we’ve had to make some hard choices about what we continue to offer on our menu. We’re always innovating to find your next favorite menu item and excited to let you know that we’re working on some new menu items for you to enjoy.”
This might have had a reverse effect for some diners.
Customers respond
The Chick-fil-A side salad recipe is made up of fresh mixed greens, tomatoes, red pepper corns, and a mix of Cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses. It’s a winning recipe that patrons are already mourning as a healthy option when dining there. “Hopefully it’s an April Fools joke. I love getting that and the grilled nuggets – healthier than a fried item,” wrote one user on that same Facebook post.
Another echoed, “Never understood why they took away the Cole slaw and replaced with Mac n cheese..love the Mac n cheese but the reason they took the slaw away was for a healthier option ??????” A different user requested, “If you take it off the menu , please replace with something healthy!”
This is a nationwide change, TODAY later confirmed. Images of similar flyers have also been shared on different social media pages for Chick-fil-A’s different national branches. Did you order then when you went there, or have any of your other favorite menu items been swapped out?
