New Video Shows How Much Buildup Is Caused By Cheap Shampoo

A recent video by a hairstylist went viral for its ‘gross factor’. The hairstylist warned people against cheap drugstore shampoo and conditioner because of what it can do to your hair. The video shows her using scissors to carefully go down the hair shaft. What is revealed is white, waxy buildup residue. It looks disgusting!

It immediately made people wonder if their hair would do that too. The hairstylist said that the buildup is the result of years of using drugstore shampoo. Many cheaper hair products contain waxes, silicones, and parabens, which cause buildup in your hair. They are not natural ingredients. She compares silicone to rubber and plastic.

The client in the viral video had been using drugstore shampoo with silicone for over three decades. This created an insane amount of waxy buildup in her hair.

Silicones are often added to hair products to help make hair thicker and fuller. So, if you have thin hair and buy a thickening or volumizing shampoo… check the ingredients. These ingredients aren’t necessarily bad for you, but they can create that thick coating of buildup that you don’t want.

Other symptoms may include itchy scalp and noticeable white flakes. It can also make your hair difficult to style.

So, how do you get rid of this annoying buildup in your hair?

Hairstylists recommend using a clarifying shampoo about once a week. Clarifying shampoos help to cleanse your hair fully and get rid of any buildup. When you shampoo with clarifying shampoo, really scrub your hair to get everything out.

Look at the ingredients when you are shopping for shampoo. If you’re unsure what to buy for your specific hair type, ask your hairstylist for advice.

Don’t try the scissor scraping method at home! If you’re really curious, ask your hairstylist to show you the next time you get a haircut. If you try it yourself, you could end up messing up your hair and damaging it.

What do you think about this video and advice? What kind of shampoo do you use? Did you know how much buildup can stay in your hair even after you think you washed it out?
