If you are a parent, grandparent, or guardian who regularly picks up a child at a daycare, you have likely seen the following scenario. Groups of parents waiting for their kids, either staring down into their phones or talking on them. They don’t seem to be paying attention to anything around them and don’t even notice their child at first.
One Texas daycare decided that enough was enough. They posted a note near where parents pick up their kids every day. One mother, who admits her phone was in her hand as she read the message, saw the note and posted it to Facebook. From there, it went viral and started reminding parents everywhere of this important message.

The note reads, “You are picking up your child! GET OFF YOUR PHONE!! Your child is happy to see you! Are you not happy to see your child?? We have seen children trying to hand their parents their work they completed and the parent is on the phone. We have heard a child say ‘Mommy, mommy, mommy…’ and the parent is paying more attention to their phone than their own child. It is appalling. Get off your phone!!”
The mother who shared the note admits that she sees this phenomenon everywhere, not just at daycare pick up. It seems these days we are all so obsessed with our phones, we don’t realize we are missing out on important moments in life, especially with our children or grandchildren.
Children are only small for a short period of time. If we spend their childhood glued to a screen, we might look up one day and realize we missed a whole lot. The post has been shared millions of times and has thousands of comments, which means this isn’t just a problem at one Texas daycare.

Some comments simply admitted guilt, while others think these types of signs should be posted everywhere that kids frequent like parks or schools. What do you think? Do you think more of these signs should be posted or should it be common sense to pay more attention to your kid than your phone?
