Gas Station In Seattle Displays Hilarious Messages On A Sign Everyday

by Zack Walkter

Published April 24, 2018

If you were looking for a sign, Wallingford Sign is the one. Each week it provides you a new joke or a witty observation. Isn’t it a puntastic idea? This funny initiative was started by Seattle Propane at Wallingford Chevron. In 2005 an auto repair shop was converted into an ExtraMile convenience store. The owners say, that it had always been “easy to think of useful messages to put on the sign for things like service promotions and store specials and the like”, but they wanted to do something different with it. And so they did.

2. The Story

According to their website,

“In October of 2005 we converted our auto repair shop into an ExtraMile convenience store and suddenly we had a problem. It had always been easy to think of useful messages to put on the sign for things like service promotions and store specials and the like. But with the extra mile, there were no more cars to fix and the place was plastered with store specials.”

3. Something Fun

The owner of the Wallingford Chevron, Jim Bernard, said, “When it came time to put something up on the reader board, my manager and I looked at each other and said, ‘Everything’s done. Let’s just do something silly. Something fun.'”‘

4. Brightening Up Morning Drives

It’s not hard to imagine the positive impact this has on local residents. No one likes their morning commute. So this at least gives them something to look forward to.

5. Community Impact

Manager Cassandra Spangler said she believes “it affects the community in a happy way because they come down this 45th Street and they see so many sales signs. ‘Come in and buy this,’ ‘Two for one,’ or whatnot. It’s just a great way for the community to connect with us.”
