According to Fathom Entertainment, the timing is especially fitting. The U.S. rerelease begins August 28, one day before the movie’s fictional “Judgment Day” date of August 29. ‘Terminator 2’ Returns to Theaters for Its 35th Anniversary
STUDIOCANAL, Fathom Entertainment, and Rialto Pictures are bringing the film back to U.S. theaters from August 28 through September 2. Other countries will receive their own late-August and early-September releases, including Germany, Italy, France, Australia, and the United Kingdom.
The rerelease uses STUDIOCANAL’s 2017 restoration and 3D conversion. Cameron said the movie was made for theaters and called the 3D version the best way to experience it. He also joked that after 35 years, spoilers should finally be safe, noting that the heroes ultimately defeat the artificial intelligence threatening humanity. The anniversary campaign also includes a new trailer and nostalgia-inspired poster, adding another layer of retro appeal for fans who remember when the original dominated theaters.
