Demi Moore and Chevy Chase co-starred in Nothing But Trouble, which was a dark comedy movie and the directorial debut of Dan Aykroyd in 1991. The film was meant to be a mix of horror and humor, but it ended up as one of Hollywood’s all-time production flops.
It was detested by viewers and picked apart by critics, referring to it as one of the worst comedy films ever made. To make matters worse, Moore and Chase hated one another during the shoot. Their in-studio fighting did little to improve the fortune of the film.
Why did Demi Moore and Chevy Chase fight?
Moore and Chase were not exactly best friends on the set. In fact, they disagreed so much that it was unbearable to shoot. Taylor Negron, who played Fausto Squiriniszu, later revealed how chaotic things really were. Negron recalled being in the midst of one of their worst fights — a shouting match so intense, it was like his parents’ worst fights.
Name-calling was exchanged, and neither Moore nor Chase would budge. Chase even went so far as to ask for an apology at one point, but Moore did not give in. Her retort was to call him a “turd.” Production actually broke up early enough to let Negron go home just to clear out.
Moore played Diane Lightson, a high-powered attorney who takes a road trip with Chase’s character, Chris Thorne, that ends up with them stranded in a creepy small town ruled by a strangely warped old judge.
It was intended to be a black-humored, offbeat comedy, but it just didn’t pan out. Chase, as the male lead, wasn’t even a fan of the script. The studio contracted for him, though he reportedly detested every last minute of it. He was difficult to get along with, had screaming matches with the director, ignored the script, and made everyone else’s life miserable, including Moore’s.
