Actress Demi Moore used to be one of Hollywood’s highest-paid actresses. The Substance actress has been on our screens since she was a teenager, and she has appeared in numerous movies. However, despite all of these achievements, Demi Moore had never won any major acting award until the Golden Globes, where she won her first-ever acting award at age 62.
Following her Golden Globes achievement, the actress has now been nominated for an Oscar in the Best Actress category for her role in The Substance, the same movie that earned her the Golden Globe Award. Surprisingly, Demi Moore was about to give up on acting, but she revealed that the “magical, bold, courageous, out-of-the-box, absolutely bonkers script” for The Substance drew her back in. For an actress once labeled as a “popcorn actress,” this nomination is a long-deserved one.

After she was nominated for Best Actress at the 2025 Academy Awards on Thursday, Jan. 23, Demi Moore took to Instagram to express her joy and excitement at the nomination. She expressed that being nominated for an Oscar is an incredible honor, and the past few months have been beyond her wildest dreams. She continued, saying, “There are no words to express my joy and gratitude for the recognition. I am deeply humbled.” The actress also she used the opportunity to express her concern for the devastating fires in L.A. as she sympathized with those who were affected by the fires, and praised the communities for remaining united.
Demi Moore’s daughters, Tallulah and Rumer, have also reacted to the nomination. Tallulah Willis posted a picture of Demi Moore and Elizabeth Taylor, a two-time Oscar winner. She captioned the snap with: “In great company, bursting for you and the art you’ve created, maman. I love u.” Rumer Willis also shared two posts on her Instagram story. She wrote “OSCAR NOMINATED” on the first post and captioned the second one with: “SHE DID IT!!”

Demi Moore has received praise for her role in ‘The Substance’
Moore’s performance in The Substance has been a game-changer for her. The film focuses on the pressures of aging in the industry, a challenge Moore has personally experienced. Moore’s character, Elisabeth Sparkle, uses a mysterious drug called “The Substance” in an attempt to stay relevant after her boss fires her. The drug creates a younger version of her, Sue, but with the condition that Elisabeth and Sue must alternate one week each in public. Fans and critics have praised her for performance in the film.
Moore will compete in the Best Actress category with Wicked‘s Cynthia Erivo, Anora’s Mikey Madison, Emilia Pérez’s Karla Sofía Gascón, and I’m Still Here‘s Fernanda Torres. The 2025 Oscars, will air live from the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood on Sunday, March 2, at 7 p.m. ET.
