Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks are one of the biggest rivalries in the music industry. Despite being lovers at some point in their lives, their feud has gone on for decades. Their romantic relationship turned sour shortly after they joined the Fleetwood Mac band. Then they progressed from a breakup to a long history of conflict, creative differences, and personal struggles.
Now, Fleetwood Mac’s co-founder Mick Fleetwood has revealed that he hopes Nicks and Buckingham will finally reconcile. He recently shared his “fantasy” that they would move past their differences, even if a band reunion seems unlikely. With Christine McVie’s passing in 2022, Fleetwood believes it is time for healing, but whether Buckingham and Nicks will make peace remains uncertain.
Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks’ feud
Buckingham and Nicks joined Fleetwood Mac in 1975, bringing fresh energy to the band; together, they made some of Fleetwood’s greatest hits. At the time, they were a couple, but their romance ended during the recording of Rumours in 1976. The breakup inspired emotional songs like “Dreams” and “Go Your Own Way,” but it also created tension within the band.
Over the years, their relationship became more complicated. In 1987, Buckingham left Fleetwood Mac after disputes with Nicks and other members. Though he rejoined in 1997, the conflicts never truly ended. The situation worsened in 2018 when Buckingham was fired from the band. He claimed that Nicks played a role in his removal, he said she gave the band an ultimatum, either she leaves or he leaves.
Mick Fleetwood hopes the pair will reconcile
Despite their rocky history, Mick Fleetwood still hopes that Nicks and Buckingham will settle their differences. Speaking at a recent event, he expressed his wish that the two could find peace and acknowledge their shared history. However, Nicks has stated that there is “no path forward” for the band. But Mick Fleetwood remains hopeful that Nicks and Buckingham will mend their relationship, even if they never perform together again.
While both have spoken openly several times about their differences, it appears like there’s no reconciliation in sight. Nevertheless, time may still bring healing.
