Paul McCartney’s son, James McCartney, is under fire after the release of his latest song, “Cherub,” which he performed with his guitar in a silk dress shirt, grey pants, and no shoes. He shared his rendition with his Instagram followers, but the responses were mostly disheartening.
The 47-year-old urged fans to listen to “Cherub” as part of his Beautiful Nothing. “Here’s a little acoustic rendition of my new song ‘Cherub’. You’ll find the full version of my collection of songs ‘Beautiful Nothing’ at the link in bio,” her caption read.

James’ video got reactions ranging from jest to admiration, and some thought he was trying too hard to match up with his father. “I can’t imagine the pressure of being the child of one of the greatest songwriters ever. I would become a lawyer or something,” someone said.
Another outrightly said James’ singing was so bad that he should be nowhere near music. “Good god…stop. People know this is bad…Right? You can hear it’s bad …can’t you??” a third person echoed, while another person suggested that he take singing and guitar classes.
James McCartney’s music career
James is a self-taught guitarist and pianist, having watched his dad play growing up. He has collaborated with the Beatles frontman on several occasions, including tours and solo albums Flaming Pie and Driving Rain, where he played drums and co-wrote lyrics.
He began pursuing his solo music career in his thirties, releasing three albums—Me, Time Will Tell, and The Blackberry Trains, but with no commercial success. He has previously admitted that living up to The Beatles is tough work, and he prefers to do his own thing. James was estranged from Paul in the late 2000s after his mother Linda died, and his father took another wife, Heather Mills. Father and son are now best of friends and collaborators.
