Lisa Marie Presley’s death in January last year led to a legal battle between her mother, Priscilla Presley, and her daughter Riley Keough. Both women fought for sole ownership of the Graceland Estate, which eventually went to Riley and her sisters Harper and Finley.
Priscilla assumed she was Lisa Marie’s sole trustee, as the documents she was last aware of at the time stated so. Apparently, Lisa amended the will, removing Priscilla from her trustee position. The 79-year-old disputed the changes, saying she was uninformed and the signatures looked forged.
Riley Keough settled matters with Priscilla Presley
Riley emerged the winner after the legal dispute but settled Priscilla with millions of dollars. During a recent appearance on Chelsea Handler’s Dear Chelsea podcast, Riley claimed she and Priscilla are still very close. She noted on Wednesday’s episode that they have always been cordial.
Riley subtly called out the media for reporting exaggerated or false news, which has shaped incorrect narratives about her relationship with Priscilla. She added that they have never had an argument and are just like the average family save for publicized legal issues and a few odd facts.
Riley Keough is keeping the Presley name alive
Being the new overseer of Graceland is no easy task, but Riley does it gracefully, claiming she has been a part of the running of Elvis Presley’s estate long before owning it. The 33-year-old has been working hard at promoting Lisa Marie’s posthumous memoir, From Here to the Great Unknown.
In September, she mentioned that she wants to continue Priscilla’s hard work on the estate, which she turned into a revenue-generating asset decades ago. Priscilla opened Graceland to the public in 1982, and hundreds of thousands of paying tourists flock in every year. This move generates millions of dollars annually for the Presley household from entry fees, merchandise sales, and special ticketed events.
