Ted Danson is currently starring in Netflix’s A Man On The Inside, where he plays a retired widowed professor who goes undercover at a nursing home for a private investigator. Following the series premiere in November, Ted is set to receive the Carol Burnett Award at the upcoming Golden Globes.
He will accept the honor next month for his outstanding contributions to TV and film on or off-screen. At 76, Ted is happy to be working and often looks back on the timeless relevance of his acting talent for the past five decades.
Ted Danson talks about aging and retirement
Ted says he can relate to the story portrayed in his upcoming series, which is based on a true story chronicled in the 2020’s The Mole Agent documentary. He told PEOPLE Magazine that he considers his character a funny retiree who succumbs to his daughter’s nudge to find a hobby.
Ted was grateful to have explored the aging conversation, which he believed the world is shying away from. He promised that Man On The Inside depicts the ups and downs of getting older like flatulence, incontinence, and memory loss but in a light-hearted empathetic way.
From ‘Cheers’ to beyond
Ted starred in some series, including Somerset, Laverne & Shirley, Magnum P.I., and Taxi before his breakthrough role as bar owner Sam Malone in Cheers. He was constant throughout the 11-season run of the show, which earned him two Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe.
Cheers opened doors for Ted, who starred in more hits in the ‘80s, including Three Men and a Baby, Loch Ness, Body Heat, Cousins, and the likes of Mr. Mayor and The Good Place. Work aside, Ted is a father of two from his second marriage to Cassandra Casey Coates and is currently married to Mary Steenburgen.
