Riley Keough has been working hard to promote her mother’s posthumous memoir From Here To The Great Unknown, and her recent stop was in Los Angeles. She arrived at the venue in a classy black two-piece comprising a long-sleeved button-up shirt and an ankle-length skirt, plus a pair of matching heels and gold teardrop earrings.
Riley sat down with fellow author Taylor Jenkins Reid to discuss the new book and her life as Graceland’s sole heir at 35. She also addressed the so-called Presley family curse, noting that it is an exaggeration of common things that happen to real people just because they are a famous household.
Riley Keough debunks the Presley family curse
Riley noted that she often gets asked how she navigates the Presley family curse as the new heir, and she considers the question weird. Elvis Presley’s granddaughter thinks the term “Presley family curse” exists because people do not consider them real. It is mostly attributed to addiction battles, which plagued the family patriarch Elvis, and her mother Lisa Marie.
Other tragedies the public has related to the Presley family curse include the deaths of Elvis’ twin brother, Jessie, and Riley’s brother, Benjamin, who died by suicide in 2020. Thankfully, Riley has been free of drugs, and being a mother to her two-year-old Tupelo, she hopes the generations going forward stay so.
Riley Keough‘s life as Graceland’s sole heir
Riley took charge of Graceland estate after her mother Lisa Marie Presley died, however, she was met with pushback from her grandmother Priscilla Presley in the process. Priscilla disputed the will, saying she had been switched out from sole ownership without her knowledge.
The legal battle ended with Riley and her sisters Harper and Finley as co-trustees, while Priscilla got compensated with millions of dollars. Riley told host Reid that managing Graceland has not been so difficult because she was previously involved in the running of the estate.
