Fox admitted that his condition has grown worse as it is taking a toll on his mental health. The 63-year-old added that his dark humor is not helping either, despite being a coping mechanism since his diagnosis in 1991.

The iconic actor was a 30-year-old rising star on the set of Doc Hollywood when he got diagnosed with Parkinosn’s. He kept the news private until years later, when he underwent a thalamotomy procedure due to his constant twitching.

Fox was forced to retire officially in 2020 after noticing a decline in his performance on the set of Once Upon A Time, adding that he could hardly remember lines. He also noted that he needed to focus on his family, as he was done struggling with pages of dialogue and 12-hour workdays.

Fox is making the most of his condition by reaching out to others who can relate via the Michael J. Fox Foundation, which he established in 2000 to support research toward finding a cure for Parkinson’s. Last year, he celebrated a major discovery of biomarkers that are said to help detect the disease before symptoms show up.
