Jim Carrey recently lost his older sister, Rita Carrey, and the cause of her death remains undisclosed. Per her husband Alex’s post on Facebook, she died peacefully and quietly while being surrounded by friends and family.
Their marriage was short-lived as they had their wedding just last year, after being together for the past 16 years. He noted that she was his best friend, lover, and travel partner as they loved seeing new places and meeting new folks together.
Jim Carrey’s sister had a loving heart
Sadly, Rita did not live to see her favorite time of the year, Christmas, despite starting a local charity to help raise funds for those in need. Alex recalled how loving she was to even total strangers, adding that she was a talented woman.
He closed out his tribute with a line from James Blunt’s “Goodbye My Lover,” which read, “Until we meet again. You really did have the Time of your life.” He urged supporters to honor Rita’s legacy by attending the Christmas on the Terrace public event at the Gilian’s Place shelter for abuse victims in Ontario. He also encouraged them to financially support the initiative as it was one of Rita’s charities.
Jim Carrey has yet to speak about his sister’s passing
A candlelight vigil in honor of Rita will be held on December 7 at Heathcote Terrace in St. Catharines. Meanwhile, Jim has yet to comment on his sister’s demise or pay any tributes online. Her loss, in addition to his other older brother John Carrey’s passing in 2019, leaves him with one older sibling, Patricia.
Rita worked as a radio host, anchoring programs like The Peet and the Reet show alongside Pete Dychtiar. She was also a part of the self-titled rock group, the Rita Carrey Band, and another named Tranzit, known for singing the national anthem at sports events across the US.
