Carol Burnett is considering taking the back seat from her career once her Apple TV+ show Palm Royale ends. Although she is not sure when or if, Carol thinks retiring should be on the table now that she is in her nineties unless there is another fun part to play or a cameo.
She also addressed her reasons for canceling The Carol Burnett Show after 11 seasons. The comedy variety show was the first in history to be hosted by a woman, entertaining viewers with a range of entertainment from parodies to guest appearances from their favorite celebrities.
Why did Carol Burnett cancel her variety show?
Carol ended The Carol Burnett Show when it started to get repetitive, as they were running out of fresh ideas. She also wanted to leave before CBS started to notice or kick them off. After the show ended in the late ‘70s, Carol added six more episodes in 1991.
Carol’s show averaged an impressive 30 million viewers every week and earned top recognitions including a total of 25 Emmys out of 70 nominations. Her attempt at a revival flopped in the ‘90s, however, archives from the original were added to MeTV in 2019.
After ‘The Carol Burnett Show’
After her iconic run with The Carol Burnett Show, Carol moved away from comedy to film, taking the lead in movies like Life of The Party: The Story of Beatrice and comedy-dramas A Wedding and The Four Seasons. She also made a Broadway comeback with Moon Over Buffalo, for which she earned a Tony nod.
Carol did a bit of voice acting before gradually reclining to a more private life in the 2010s. She currently plays sick Aunt Norma in Palm Royale, which she claims to be one of her easiest roles as she simply has to get into her costume and lay in bed.
