Elliot Mintz has released his new memoir, We All Shine On: John, Yoko, & Me, where he revealed some bizarre details about the controversial couple John Lennon and Yoko Ono. Elliot worked as a radio and TV host and first met Yoko while on the job.
The author later became friends with the Beatles’ bandmate, who he claims was obsessed with being skinny. Yoko also shared this obsession and would keep a refrigerator with nothing but water and hardly edible meals at their Ojai home in Los Angeles.
John Lennon asked Elliot Mintz for weight loss tips
Elliot recalled getting a call from Lennon at 4 am to ask what pills he uses for weight loss. He responded by saying he would go for injections instead, and Lennon immediately asked to procure them because he was trying to stay fit. Lennon had tried every diet in a bid to avoid getting fat like his industry idol-turned-rival, Elvis Presley.
Elliot claims the couple arranged their clothes in department store style according to sizes, with their pants arranged from 28 inches up to 32. The entertainment correspondent assumed at some point that Yoko and Lennon used to be methadone addicts, hence their low appetites.
John Lennon kept track of his weight
Lennon reportedly weighed himself every day and kept a journal to track his daily progress. He allegedly looked up to Hollywood celebrities and insisted that Elliot got them the same magic diet pills they assumed were the secret. Lennon struggled with weight gain growing up and ended up a self-conscious adult.
After Lennon’s passing in 1980, Elliot remained close to Yoko and their son Sean. Ono has yet to comment on their family friend’s new book release, though she has been out of the spotlight in recent times, as she reportedly prefers to be holed up in her Dakota apartment in New York City.
