‘Charlie’s Angels’ Star Cheryl Ladd Releasing Tell-All Book About “Ups And Downs” Of Hollywood

by Dana Daly

Published July 2, 2024

Cheryl Ladd readies to tell her full story

Across four seasons, TV watchers fell in love with Cheryl Ladd as Kris Munroe in Charlie’s Angels and witnessed her becoming a familiar face in the cultural landscape. But for the first time, Ladd is formally telling her story in her words with a tell-all book about her journey through Hollywood, the hurdles she’s had to push through, and the lessons every bump in the road has taught her.

Ladd will be celebrating her 73rd birthday this July, and although stepping in for Farrah Fawcett in the ABC crime drama remains one of Ladd’s most famous gigs, she’s kept herself very busy in the industry to this day. Her most recent television credit comes from a 2015 episode of Ray Donovan, while in film, she can most recently be spotted in 2021’s A Cowgirl’s Song. But for all her time in front of the camera, this book is promising to give fans an open, vulnerable, and candid look into Ladd’s world after over five decades in entertainment. Here’s what to expect.

Ladd spoke with Closer Weekly about her work beyond the realm of television and film, exploring her writing career. Closer Weekly noted that as of 2005, Ladd has a book all about golf to her name. That text is called Token Chick: A Woman’s Guide to Golfing with the Boys, which taps into her knowledge as an enthusiastic golfer who frequents the pro-am circuit. There, she discusses her competition experience and her observations concerning how men and women approach the game differently. Google Books calls it “an entertaining and indispensable guide for any woman who loves the sport, or is even just thinking about picking up a club.”

Curious minds have queried Ladd about any future writing projects, and the Poison Ivy actress confirmed that her next book will be just as personal and insightful as the last.

“I’m thinking about doing a sort of autobiography about the big turning points in my life and what I’ve learned,” she confirmed. “Everybody has ups and downs, and I think other people need to hear that. I think we should be real when we talk about our heartbreaks and growing pains.”

Where those lessons may come from

So far, Token Chick remains the latest book Ladd has published. However, obstacles are often learning opportunities, and Ladd has discussed some of the most taxing parts of her illustrious career.

When asked about her biggest challenges, Ladd replied, “In my career, it was doing four years of Charlie’s Angels with 28 episodes a season.” She added, “Then on my hiatus, supposedly my rest time, I was doing movies of the week and variety shows. I had a 2-year-old daughter, and I was spinning like a clock.”

That daughter is Jordan, now 49, who she shares with fellow actor David Ladd. The two divorced in 1980, but Jordan has followed in her parents’ footsteps and become known as a quintessential scream queen. However, Ladd has admitted to having regrets concerning Jordan’s upbringing.

“I missed so many times with my daughter,” she shared. “That’s why I didn’t do another series for a very long time after Charlie’s Angels, because I really wanted to be with my daughter, Jordan.”
