74-year-old Richard Gere was feeling the love this Father’s Day. Though he continues to fill his work schedule—with a new film, Longing, out this year—Gere prefers to maintain his privacy. This habit took a brief break as he appeared alongside his sons in a rare family photo just in time for the holiday.
Married three times, Gere shares multiple children across different relationships. He and Carey Lowell share Homer James, 24, and he is the stepfather of Lowell’s daughter Hannah. Today, he is with publicist Alejandra Silva, and the two share five-year-old Alexander, a younger three-year-old son whose name they have not shared, and Silva’s child from a past relationship, Albert, 9.

On Sunday, Silva took to Instagram to share a Father’s Day tribute to Gere. “Happy Father’s Day, to the most wonderful dad four boys could ever wish for,” she captioned her post. “Your endless patience, love, and dedication are truly remarkable. Happy Father’s Day to the man who is always there for us, making every moment special.”

The post is accompanied by a carousel of family photos, including a group shot at the beach, a big ceremony for Albert receiving a school-related certificate, a candid shot enjoying some cool drinks, and a photo of the happy couple and one of their kids. In each, there are wide smiles in abundance all around.
Fatherhood and fame
Gere credits becoming stepfather to Lowell’s daughter Hannah as his entry point into fatherhood. Speaking with The Independent in 2007, he said the experience helped him move on from “past any fears I had about having children.”
So, when he welcomed Homer, he was able to focus on the joys of parenting. “He fills me with joy,” he said of Homer in 2008. “You have to make time for a child, but it’s enormously satisfying. That’s love, too.”
When he became a parent, Gere also adjusted his schedule. “My film decisions are mostly mine,” he told Hindustan Times, “but I’m very careful about not being away from my son, Homer James Jigme Gere, for very long. So, if I have to be away for long, I talk to him about it, and if there is a problem, I don’t take up the project. And I have done that. Your family is more important than anything.”
Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there!
