Kate Hudson is feeling lucky this Father’s Day, and she made it clear it’s all thanks to Kurt Russell. The two became a family through his steadfast relationship to her mother Goldie Hawn, and on Sunday, Hudson shared all the ways Russell has been everything a father should be throughout her life.
45-year-old Hudson is Hawn’s child with actor Bill Hudson, to whom Hawn was married from 1976 to 1982. They also share Hudson’s older brother, 47-year-old Oliver. The children had been estranged from Hudson for years and Kate has repeatedly insisted that Russell filled that void with grace and love.

On Sunday, Hudson took to Instagram to praise the father figure in her life, Russell. “You got that right Loretta!” she captioned her post. “I love my Pa so much! What a man, lucky me Love you Pa Happy Father’s Day!”

Her post is accompanied by a photo of Hudson and Russel sitting side by side. Hudson is seen smiling behind a large pair of black, heart-shaped sunglasses. Beside her, Russell is positively beaming from ear to ear being with her.
In the comments, Hudson’s fans fawned over the sweet father-daughter image. “I love the joy in his face when he spots you in a crowd,” one gushed. “He Truly is your PA any man that raises someone else’s kids is a Father and beyond,” another said in agreement with Hudson’s sentiment.
Another wrote, “I can’t even tell you how lucky you really are to have what you have in your family that’s worth its weight in[sic] gold.”

Just as much as she’s marveled at Russell’s dedication to being a father figure to her and Oliver, Kate is also awed by the persisting love and devotion he and Hawn display. “Their strongest value is their dedication to that unit,” she said in a cover story with PEOPLE.
“They’ve been through everything together, and it’s such an amazing thing to see,” she went on, “especially as they get older, how beautiful their relationship is. It’s so loving and caring. They’ve stuck with it. It’s like a very rare Hollywood story. They’re in it forever. It’s wild.”
Hudson is grateful for the chance to have Russell in her life, as she is grateful for all the gifts he gave her. “He has taught me that we can all exist with immense love through our differences,” she praised in a tribute to Russell for his 70th birthday. “He gave me the gift of confidence, instilling a knowingness in me that I deserved everything I worked for and I knew that he’d always have my back in whatever challenges may lay ahead. When you have a dad who gives you permission to be confident, you live courageously.”
