‘The Conners’ Renewed For Seventh Season, Which Will Be Its Last

The Conners are saying goodbye

Premiering in 2018, ABC’s The Conners has continued the story laid out in Roseanne of the ‘80s and ‘90s. However, this latest, prolonged chapter is about to end as The Conners was recently renewed for its seventh season, which will also be its last.

Produced by Werner Entertainment, The Conners stars John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson, Michael Fishman, Emma Kenney, and Ray Ferguson. Development began following a controversial bout on Twitter from Roseanne star Roseanne Barr. Across six seasons, it has aired over a hundred episodes, but series creator Matt Williams has a clear and short picture of the end for the TV family.

On Friday, May 10, ABC renewed The Conners for season seven, which will run for just six episodes before the series ends completely, according to Variety. By time of writing, ABC has reportedly declined to comment on the length of the final season.

Season six premiered on February 7 and the series just celebrated its 100th episode in April. The season six finale is scheduled to air on May 6.

“You’ve been part of this family for years. After 6 seasons, be there to say goodbye,” the captions of a trailer shared by ABC on YouTube reads.

Roseanne was slated to continue in the spring of 2018 and was indeed nine episodes deep, notes Entertainment Weekly. But following a series of controversial posts on Twitter by Barr, the show was dropped.

“While we wish the very best for the cast and production crew of The Conners, all of whom are deeply dedicated to their craft and were Roseanne’s cherished colleagues,” Barr told Us Weekly, “we regret that ABC chose to cancel Roseanne by killing off the Roseanne Conner character. That it was done through an opioid overdose lent an unnecessary grim and morbid dimension to an otherwise happy family show.”

ABC has made other announcements about its upcoming lineup, including more returns. The network confirmed it is renewing the sitcom Not Dead Yet, starring Gina Rodriguez, giving the green light for season three. It will also be moving forward with a Tim Allen-led sitcom, Shifting Gears, marking his third big foray with the network, beginning with Home Improvement and continuing with Last Man Standing.
